To do this, they complete the formalities, present their employment contract, among other things, and make themselves available to the tax office for any questions. At the end of this process, they are issued a certificate by the Spanish tax authority that officially confirms their privileged tax status.”

Le Temps, April 12, 2025

This full-page French language ad was published on Saturday, April 12 in the Geneva-based newspaper Le Temps.

The ad states: “For 20 years, Madrid has wanted to attract international investors and expatriate executives by offering them a supposedly advantageous tax optimization scheme, commonly called the ‘Beckham Law.’

If you have been attracted by this scheme, be careful.

Spain is currently and ostentatiously conducting a crusade of tax audits based on arbitrary criteria and motivated solely by maximizing the revenues of the State and its agents, the tax authorities. Being in possession of a proper State certificate attesting to your status as a ‘Beckham resident’ provides you with no protection.”
